‘The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo’, 9:10 p.m. – Zebra Cinema, Joseph-Belli-Weg 5, 78467 Konstanz
To mark World AIDS Day, we are joining forces with Zebra Cinema to invite you to a screening of the Chilean film ‘The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo’ (2025) by Diego Céspedes. The film won the main prize in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section at the Cannes International Film Festival. Set in 1982 in a desert mining town in northern Chile, it follows young Lidia, who grows up in a queer chosen family centred around the character Flamingo. Against the backdrop of a spreading, unknown and deadly disease that parts of the population associate with queer people and the emerging AIDS epidemic, the film sensitively tells the story of a supportive community that protects the girl and, in doing so, powerfully highlights the lived realities of the LGBTIQ* community.
